STAGED READINGS

On June 7, 2022, Church & State was presented as a staged reading at Stephen Wise Free Synagogue in New York City to benefit Sandy Hook Promise, Safer Country, and The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Directed by Charlotte Cohn, the reading featured Jason Odell Williams, Judy Jerome, Keira Naughton, Andy Talen, and Emily Kratter. The post-show panel included Former NY State Representative Michael Blake, Brady Center national board member Josh Solomon, and the founder of Safer Country, Paul Friedman.

On Oct 31, 2019, Church & State was presented as a staged reading at the Virginia Theatre Association in Norfolk to an extremely receptive group of over 300 enthusiastic high school theatre students. Directed by Stefan Sittig, the reading featured Charlotte Cohn, Jason Odell Williams, Melissa Charles, Juptej Singh, and Brynn Lackey.

On October 28, 2019, The Stella Adler Studio of Acting presented a special ONE-NIGHT ONLY BENEFIT READING of Church & State starring real-life spouses, Carolyn McCormick & Byron Jennings. McCormick is best know for her nearly two decades of work as "Dr. Elizabeth Olivet" on Law & Order. Jennings has appeared in the films "Lincoln," "The Greatest Showman," and "Julie & Julia" among many others. The reading raised over $1000 for March For Our Lives.

On February 14, 2019, to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, a nation-wide series of staged readings of the play took place at 8 universities across the country: UCLA, The University of Chicago, Butler University in Indiana, University of Kansas, Tulane University, Point Park University in Pittsburgh, New World School of The Arts in Miami, and Elon University in North Carolina.

On December 10, 2018, a staged reading took place at MetroStage in Alexandria, VA to benefit the Virginia Tech Victims’ Family Outreach Foundation. Directed by Stefan Sittig, the reading featured Beth Hylton as “Sara Whitmore,” Liz Mamana as “Alex Klein,” Chris Galindo as “Tom/Marshall” and Jason Odell Williams as “Sen. Charles Whitmore.” Diane Cooper Gould read stage directions.

On January 31, 2016, a staged reading took place at Fathom Gallery in Washington, DC to benefit the DC Actors Salon. Directed by Gregg Wiggans, the reading featured Beth Hylton as “Sara Whitmore,” Liz Mamana as “Alex Klein,” William Vaughn as “Tom/Marshall” and TONY nominee Alan Campbell as “Sen. Charles Whitmore.”
